The breed was originated in Great Britain. The first British Cat Club was registered in 1901.

A British cat is a stout creature with a strong cobby body, round head, full fluffy cheeks, firm chin, straight rounded ears, round eyes, strong legs with rounded paws, slightly tapered rounded tale.

They are affectionate, friendly with children and adults. They are individuals and need some personal space. They accept other cats of the same or other breeds, play with them and care for their mates. They like to be caressed as long as they are not busy with anything important like feeding or eating, or sleeping or washing themselves.

British shorthairs usually live at home with their owners. They are curious like all cats are. This means that any owner should keep in mind open windows and doors and check them before leaving home. Calm and patient British cats easily become used to travelling and like living in a country cottage (dacha).

Generally British cats have a good health and long life span. They need good food, dry or canned one, a bowl of fresh water should be always available. Our cats prefer a Cat's fountain. The British cats are very clean. They look after themselves, no grooming is usually needed. Brushing once a week is enough for their fur to be kept combed and smooth, and glossy. A cozy bed, a multileveled home with a scratch post and care is all your need to make your pet comfortable.

British cats represent a great variety of colors. The pigment melanin is responsible for a hair color. The basic colors are black and orange, and also lack of color, white and white spots. The black color has derivatives, brown and cinnamon. The basic colors may be diluted. Blue, lilac, fawn and cream appear as a result of dilution. This is very brief and incomplete description just to introduce a wide spectrum of hair colors of British shorthairs.

Some colors may be mixed or mixed with white to get bi-color and three-color cats. There are different patterns of hair coloring. Apart from traditional solid British shorthairs there are also tabby, spotted, color-pointed and tipped.

Color of eyes depends on fur color. It ranges from gold and copper in solids and bi-colors to green in tipped, blue in color-points, hazel or green in black silver tabby or spotted silver cats, others have eye colors like their solid counterparts.

All our cats are blue eyed.
